FSU Student wins "Student of the Year" Award

Cedric Nabe
2008 FCPA Student of the Year

Winning awards and being recognized are no strange occurrences for Cedric Nabe. Most recently he added “2008 FCPA Student of the Year” to his growing list of accolades. The Florida Career Professionals Association will formally recognize Cedric in June at its annual conference in Naple by presenting him with a plaque and $300 cash award.

The student of the year award is presented annually to a “single exceptional student enrolled in a 2 or 4 year higher education institution in the state of Florida.” To be considered, the student must complete at least 10 weeks of employment in an internship, co-op, or work experience related to their major and demonstrate achievement of professional, personal and/or academic skills in a learning environment. According to FCPA Past President Dee Dee Gatch, “his outstanding work experience and academic achievement make him the top choice among this year’s contenders.”

Cedric, an information technology major, served 2 semesters as an intern with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) were he began working with the company’s project manager to identify the need and requirements of an IT application. As a result, he created a Project Registry that will be used within the HCA North Florida Division - a division that includes 23 hospitals.

“My internship at HCA was so beneficial to my career development” said Nabe. “I was able to apply the concepts that I learned in college in a professional environment and today, I feel prepared and armed with the experience to be successful in my future job.”

Cedric, a native of Geneva Switzerland, graduated in April 2008 with a B.S. degree in Information Technology and is the first person in his family to receive a college degree. During high school he was selected to the World Junior Championship for the Swiss track and field team where he gained attention from the international community and was later recruited by Florida State University. Currently he is in training and competition for the Olympics. In addition, he recently accepted a job as an ERS Consultant at Deloitte and Touche and will begin in late July.

In a statement, Cedric said the following: “I feel honored to have been nominated for the FCPA Student of the Year Award. It always means a lot to be recognized for my hard work and determination. I would have never gotten that far without the help and support of the FSU Career Center. I wish every student knew about the great resources that this university can provide to them.”

The FSU Career Center is extremely proud of his accomplishments and wish him much success in his future endeavors! You can learn more about this impressive young man at www.cedricnabe.com.
