ProfessioNole Ready Certificate

The ProfessioNole Ready Certificate (PRC) provides you the opportunity to build the skills desired by employers through learning, practice and application. 

Completing the PRC program will help you achieve career readiness. What is career readiness? Career readiness is the attainment and demonstration of competencies that prepare you for a successful transition into the workplace. Employers are looking for graduates who are career ready and demonstrate an understanding of these competencies. The activities within each area of PRC provide you the opportunity to develop an understanding of the competencies and apply them to your next steps. Use the Transferable Skills Checklist to help you identify these competencies.

Related Competencies

Each section of PRC has content related to the eight (8) National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies that are associated with career readiness.

The competencies associated with career readiness are:

  • Career Management: Identify and articulate one's skills, strengths, experiences and knowledge relevant to a desired position and career goals. 
  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving: Exercise sound reasoning to analyze issues, make decisions and overcome problems. 
  • Digital technology: Utilize appropriate technology to accomplish a given task. Apply computing skills to solve problems. 
  • Global/intercultural fluency:  Value, respect and learn from diverse cultures, races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, and religions. 
  • Leadership: Leverage the strength of others to achieve common goals and use skills to develop others.
  • Professionalism/work ethic: Demonstrate personal accountability and effective work habits.
  • Oral/written communications: Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in multiple forms of communication.
  • Teamwork: Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers across diverse perspectives.

Program Requirements

To obtain the ProfessioNole Ready Certificate (PRC): 

  • Complete the activities required under the "Build", "Engage" and "Connect" sections
  • Complete all activities within one (1) academic year
  • Complete the Career Portfolio synthesis reflection
  • Submit your "PRC" completion form and program evaluation survey

Benefits of completing PRC: 

As a participant, you will: 

  • Gain an understanding of the competencies needed for workplace success, and gain an ability to articulate how you've developed those competencies
  • Gain opportunities to build your professional network
  • Build your resume through engaging in a campus program 
  • Receive a Certificate of completion that you can showcase on Handshake, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Receive a padfolio to use in your professional endeavors

There are three sections to complete in order to receive the ProfessioNole Ready Certificate: Build, Engage, and Connect. There are associated activities with each of the three areas to help you develop the career readiness competencies. 


The "Build" section of PRC involves building your knowledge of career competencies and skills employers are looking for.  As a result of completing these activities, you will increase your knowledge of employability skills and understand best practices in building a dynamic resume. 

To complete this area, you must:

  1. Upload a Career Center critiqued resume to Handshake AND
  2. Watch a minimum of three (3) PRC express workshops listed below:


The "Engage" section of PRC allows you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of career options and assess your skills related to networking and interviewing. As a result of this section, you will have a better understanding of your career options and how these options fit to your interests, values and skills. 

To complete this area, you must:

  1. Meet with a Career Advisor or your Career Liaison AND
  2. Attend or complete one (1) of the following:


The "Connect" section allows you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills built through interactions with employers, professionals, and alumni. As a result of completing the activities within this section, you will increase your understanding of networking skills and will begin developing your professional brand and identity. 

To complete this area, you must:

  1. Attend two (2) professional career or networking events hosted by the Career Center OR one (1) career fair and one (1) employer information session

Options for FSU Panama City and Distance Students


  1.  Watch a minimum of three (3) PRC express workshops offered by The Career Center AND
  2.  Upload a critiqued resume to Handshake (email careermail@fsu.edu to request a resume critique)


  1.  Meet 1:1 with a Career Advisor or Career Liaison via virtual advising AND
  2. Complete a phone of Skype Mock Interview, participate in the FSUshadow program, or connect with a ProfessioNole Mentor


  1. Attend two (2) professional career or networking events hosted by or partnered with The Career Center (i.e. Panama City Career & Internship Fair, SEC/ACC Virtual Fair, CEIA Virtual Internship Fair, CareerEco Fairs)

Once you have completed the three section area requirements, the Career Portfolio is the culminating activity for the PRC. The Career Portfolio provides a space for you to reflect on your professional development and articulate the competencies developed through PRC, and experiences inside and outside the classroom.
