Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship.
In order to obtain my four internships during my time at Florida State University, I utilized Handshake, had my resume checked in The Career Center and also attended workshops and events catered to resume assistance, building your LinkedIn and more.
How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?
I applied every Fall semester, so over a year in advance. Each Fall was a semester full of interviews, opportunities, and teaching moments.
If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your job offer, what were they? How did they support your application process?
I transferred to Florida State University Spring 2018 from Broward College. I never thought I would be where I’m at today, especially given the things I learned, opportunities I’ve had, and the positions I’ve held. The FSU Career Center had not only helped me thrive in college, but it has also positively impacted my overall life. The Career Center taught me about Handshake, career advisors helped me improve my resume and enhanced my interview skills.
Since I’ve been at Florida State, I’ve: completed four internships, held three positions on executive boards, been inducted into two honor societies and had the opportunity to serve on the Fall 2019 Homecoming Court. I owe a huge portion of my success to the Career Center, they gave me the tools, resources, and feedback I needed in order to excel in college and prepare me for my career.
Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.
I had many, mostly management and leadership duties like overseeing, leading and developing teams.
What was a typical day like "on the job?"
Each day was a new experience. It (my internship) gave me the best opportunity to grow and develop.
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
I learned a lot about corporate politics and how to work with people who differ from you.
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
Yes, it made me realize I wanted to continue pursuing a career in business-related fields.
