Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship.
Through the NoleNetwork website I was able to look at all the InternFSU Job opportunities and apply to all of the ones that I found would fit me the best. After I applied to each internship I reached out to the supervisors and began a dialogue with them about beginning interviews.
How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?
As soon as I applied for the positions from InternFSU I began preparing for interviews and the prospect of having an internship for the upcoming school year.
If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship, what were they? How did they support your application process?
The NoleNetwork website and the InternFSU organization were incredible resources for obtaining my internship. Without them there is no chance I would have been able to have such an opportunity.
Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.
As an intern for the Office of University Relations at FSU, I was in charge of completing everyday tasks in the office as well as special tasks specific to the events happening around the university. For instance, during home football games I was required to work in the president's box and make sure that event ran smoothly.
What was a typical day like "on the job?"
A typical day on the job consists of me talking to my supervisor and asking what is happening that day. Depending on their answer I could do a number of things like picking up something important, meeting someone someplace so I can open a door for them, or sending out invitation emails for special events.
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
One major takeaway has been an increase in my confidence level as someone working in an office. I had never worked in a true office environment before and so having the opportunity to see how I react and a chance to thrive in that atmosphere has increased my confidence greatly and made the prospect of continuing working in a place like that less intimidating.
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
Yes, these experiences absolutely helped clarify my career path. After my first semester interning I was offered a position to stay on in the spring and continue my growth as a professional. The people I've met and the skills I've gained will be invaluable for my future in the career field.
