Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship.
Over this summer, I applied for various InternFSU opportunities through Handshake. I got a couple interviews back, and ultimately landed an internship at the Stavros Center!
How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?
I started applying for these internships a few weeks prior to their deadlines. I wanted to give myself an ample amount of time to craft my cover letters and supplemental materials.
If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your job offer, what were they? How did they support your application process?
InternFSU is a program coordinated by the Career Center. I also have visited the Career Center to have my resume reviewed. Not to mention, I used Career Center resources, like the Career Guide, to help ensure consistency through my application process.
Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.
I was a Content and Branding Development Intern at the Stavros Center. I was responsible for creating and managing social media accounts, designing promotional merchandise, coordinating team meetings, and much more!
What was a typical day like "on the job?"
I was so lucky to have the opportunity to work remotely for a large part of this internship. I would attend our team meetings twice a week sometimes use the Stavros Center as a workplace. Yet, as a busy college student, I often prefer to do my work on the go. Often times, you could me designing a logo in between my classes or setting up our social media after my lunch. It was the most ideal work situation for me.
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
I strive to one day work as a social media manager for a non-profit organization. This internship has allowed me to learn so much about social media management and it is an area I know that I would like to have a career in. Since our program had no social media accounts prior to my participation, this was my first opportunity to build accounts from the ground up. I never realized how difficult it can be to design logos, choose social media handles, etc.!
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
This experience definitely helped clarify my career path. It solidified by interest in social media management and public relations. This was such a learning process that I will forever be grateful for. I cannot wait to make a full-time career out of this one day!
