Describe the steps you took to obtain your experiential learning opportunity.
In order to obtain this internship, I utilized the InternFSU program. I found a position that was directly related to research, and communication disorders, two topics that greatly interest me. After promptly submitting my resume, I heard back that I was offered the position.
How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?
I prepared for the program unintentionally by completing other research opportunities. I prepared my résumé for several days before submitting the final product for the position.
If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your internship, what were they?
I used InternFSU to secure my position as it directly provided me with a connection to the internship.
Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity, and what a typical day was like "on the job".
I had a series of responsibilities. They ranged from transcribing interview files to be analyzed, to sending out emails through Qualtrics, to informing eligible participants about ongoing studies. Additionally, I worked in Excel to create a database for audiology patients with different types of hearing technology. On a typical day, I would go into the Audiology section of the Warren Building and work on the databases. This included using Sycle to categorize patients based on hearing loss type, equipment, age, and age of onset.
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
My major takeaways have been being more familiar with audiological technology, equipment, and terms. I have been able to look at audiograms and cochlear implant evaluations in my research. This familiarity will assist me after graduation by giving my experience with websites like Sycle and Qualtrics as I purse my AuD.
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
This experience has solidified my interest in audiology and desire to become an audiologist by allowing me to see firsthand the tasks of within an audiologist's daily life.
