How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?
I have been learning production on my own through YouTube and Skillshare for around 5 years now. That is why my portfolio ended up attracting my employer!
If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your opportunity, what were they? How did they support your application process?
The Career Center helped me tweak my resume a bit. They made me realize that putting only your best of the best achievements in the resume should be the key and readability of the resume should be extremely easy!
Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.
My responsibilities include but are not limited to setting up sequences and editing rough cuts using Adobe Premiere Pro, producing motion graphics, and setting up templates for reusable assets using Adobe After Effects, shooting and editing product photos, behind-the-scenes videos, and marketing videos.
What was a typical day like "on the job?"
I would bike to work! So, I would bike 25 minutes to get to the Pod. Usually, I would have a bunch of emails from my supervisor telling me what was to be done if it was not a continuation of the previous day. Usually, she would discuss with me what and how we were going to produce something. And then I would start working on it on my workstation. I would keep sending her drafts, and she would send me back revision requests until we were on the same page and satisfied!
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
It made me realize that working in a collaborative environment is an opportunity to fuel your inspiration through other people around you. Sometimes, you would be stuck in the cloud, but asking for help will do you wonders!
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
It did. It made me realize that I want to produce creative content. Creative sonics and visuals. I don't necessarily want to work in a corporate environment, but I want to do all these works independently, and this internship helped me learn so many of the skills that are essential to my field, like Adobe Suite!
