Describe the steps you took to obtain your research opportunity.
I reached out to a professor offering a research opportunity and scheduled an interview. After being accepted, I was excited to begin research.
What were some of your responsibilities or duties during your research opportunity?
My responsibilities included reading and approving articles related to the research and declining articles unrelated to the research objective.
What was a typical day like "on the job?"
I completed my work virtually on certain days to keep a consistent schedule. I scanned fifty articles a week, and we had a weekly Zoom meeting on Mondays to ensure we were on track to benefit the research.
What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?
After my experience, I am more comfortable working with a team of others. This experience will help me in my future career since working in an interdisciplinary team can strengthen my communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?
Yes, this experience clarified that I want to work in the medical field, helping those who are lacking answers to what they are experiencing. This experience has helped me learn to interact with others in a way where they are willing and excited to open up and share.
