Describe your job search process. What were some challenges you faced or things you learned from the experience?

When searching for a job, the main challenge was finding positions that offered the flexibility required to accommodate a full-time student schedule. This involved looking for employers who valued or specialized in part-time roles or offered adjustable working hours. From this experience, I learned the importance of clear communication about scheduling needs and the utility of networking to find roles that might not be advertised widely.

If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your part-time job, what were they? How did they support your application process?

I utilized the Nole Network, a career services platform at FSU, to find my part-time job. This platform provided access to job listings directly connected to FSU employers, streamlining the application process by allowing me to apply directly through the site. It supported my application process by offering tailored job opportunities that fit my status as a student, ensuring the roles matched my scheduling needs.

What are some takeaways from your part-time job? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?

Some key takeaways from my part-time job in IT, as a computer science major, include practical experience in troubleshooting, network management, and user support. This hands-on experience has enhanced my problem-solving skills and understanding of real-world IT operations. These skills are directly applicable to future roles in technology and will be advantageous in both job applications and day-to-day professional tasks after graduation.

What advice do you have for students currently launching a part-time job search?

Focus on roles that complement your academic schedule and career goals. Utilize university resources like career centers or job portals specifically designed for students. Network with peers and professors who might know of suitable openings. Finally, tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight relevant skills and coursework for each application.
