Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship.

Before applying to the InternFSU position with the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Awards I made sure that my resume was up to date. I also looked for help at the Career Center in preparing my application and for my interview.

How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?

I applied for the Fall 2019 position early in the summer and got the chance for an interview early in early August.

If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your job offer, what were they? How did they support your application process?

The Career Center was a big help with the application process. InternFSU is a Career Center program and that is how I was able to complete this internship.

Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.

As a Digital Narratives Intern I was responsible for highlighting graduate students who have worked with the OGFA. This included producing/editing videos as well as creating graphics and profiles.

What was a typical day like "on the job?"

A typical day depended on what project the office was working on. If a graduate student had just completed an interview with the office then I was tasked with editing the interview towards a finished product. This meant at times creating whole new graphics, transitions, and overall finding the best way to showcase the student and their work.

What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?

I began the internship not fully knowing what to expect. I had done some video and graphic design previously but I felt that this position would much more demanding. At the beginning there was definitely a learning curve and expectations were high but the nature of the work pushed me to improve my skills. Applying my creative skills and creating quality content for the graduate students was my driving force throughout the internship. I really enjoyed learning about the graduate students and their journeys. It was extremely motivational seeing and listening to them talk so passionately about their work. Being able to craft content so the work of these students is shown was extremely rewarding.
