- Students must have government-issued identification (a REAL ID, or acceptable equivalent, is strongly encouraged). Program aspects (internship site access and admission to Washington D.C. attractions/venues) require government-issued identification to participate.
- Students must be in (and remain in) good academic and conduct standing with FSU.
- Participation in the FSU DC Study Away Program is currently restricted to upper-division (30+ credit hours earned), degree-seeking undergraduates, and Program participants must have completed at least two semesters on campus by the start of the program.
- Ability to enter into a binding lease agreement with FSU Housing that spans the length of the Program period.
- Eagerness to collaborate with FSU Departments (lead sponsor: FSU Career Center; sustaining sponsor: the student’s Academic College) to identify professional aspirations and strengths to develop an internship strategy that matches your ambitions.
- Eagerness to invest a minimum of 20 hours per week toward your internship experience, where you will gain hands-on experience and a rich network of professional connections that will result in a competitive advantage in future pursuits.
- Eagerness to fully participate in programming outside of your internship through targeted development workshops, networking events, alumni speaker engagements, and unique immersion experiences.
A simple application form must be submitted along with the following applicant materials:
- Updated, one-page resumé
- Statement of professional and/or experiential interest (500 – 700 words)
- “Issues” essay or writing sample (350 – 550 words)
- List of identified internship experiences (e.g., legislative office, agency alignment, advocacy cause, or corporate/industry)
Completed applications will be reviewed, interviews conducted, and decisions communicated before course registration for the following semester.
